WASHBURN OBITUARIES

Edward Washburn, the subject of this sketch, was born in Jay Essex county, New York, April 3rd 1822. He died in Guthrie Center, Iowa, July 12, 1906, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 9 days. He was married to Minerva Torrence in 1845. To this marriage were born two sons, Henry and Sheldon Washburn.

The mother ofthese two sons died in 1849. Mr. Washburn's second marriage occured July 31, 1851,the wife's maiden name was Adelaid Minor. To this union were born Francis, Franklin, Marcella, Eliza, Nettie and Minor. Minor died in 1860; Nettie in 1877 and Francis in 1897.

Mr. Washburn is survived by his wife, and sons, henry of Cashion, Oklahoma, Sheldon of Guthrie center, and Franklin of Union township, this county , and by his daughter, Mrs. Elixa Kirkwoodf, at Guthrie Center. he leasves eight grand children namely, E Washburn of Melrose, Kansas. Mrs. Earl Brown, Mrs. C. W. Thomas, Master Carroll Washburn and Alta Kirkwood of Guthrie cener. Charles, Mary, and Otto Washburn of Bear Grove township. The following are the names of his great granc childre, george, Clinton, Mattie, and Sheldon Washburn of Melrose, Kansas, and Ruth and Rex Thomas of Guthrie Center.

Mr. Washburn with his family move from New York to Warren county, Illinois, in 1868, remaining there unitl the fall of 1869 when they moved to Guthrie County, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Bear Grove Twp., remaining there unitl the spring of 1902, when they moved to their present home, in Guthrie Center.

Mr. Washburn was converted and united with the Baptist church, at the early age of nineteen and remained a faithful christian thru out a long life. Himself and his wife, were charter members of what is now known as the Union Baptist church of Seely township, Audubon, county. After moving from their farm to Gutrie Center, they united with the Baptish church, here. The funeral services were held at that church Saturday, July 14th, and the interment was in Bear Grove township.

Thus we have chronicled the earthly passing of a kind husband and father; a true friend and a helpful neighbor. He has left a heritage to his children the memory of an honest, clean, upright life.
