Col,
I address you these true lines asking your advice. I am here at the
Battery Barracks awaiting for my discharge & I don't know but I shall
have to wait until some time next fall. I was up to the office the other
day to see something about it and they gave me to understand that I
could get my discharge if I had 25 dollars to give them and if not I
might wait until such times as they felt disposed to give it to me.
So I very plainly told them that I would see them all in Hell before
I would do that & I came away & left them at that.
They afforded me a pass for 20 days to go home.
I don't know but I had better get a pass & come up to Crown Point & go
to work until I can get my discharge, for I am here without my money
& am as lonesome as I possibly can be. So if you think that I can get
an ok of some sort, I will come up there they will give me a pass as
long as I want. I wish you would let me know what you think about
the matter.
Very Respect Yours
